Studying Vocabulary using Quizlet

Quizlet has been around for a long time so sometimes we forget about how powerful this tool is.  Quizlet is available to all of us via the web, and "there is an app for it."  The app is not as powerful as the website, so you may want to direct your students to the web so that they can fully experience what Quizlet has to offer.

In Quizlet, you can create your own flashcards or use one of thousands of sets already created for you by other contributors.

In a recent classroom visit, I saw how Quizlet was introduced to students as a way to study their words within words.  Students in year 1 and 2 of English are expected to know the first 15 lists of latin roots.  The tests they are given on these lists are cumulative.  By offering up Quizlet as a resource to the students to study outside of class, time has now been given back to the classroom.

Once students realize the potential of Quizlet, this may become an approved activity for kids to do in those last ten minutes of class when they “have nothing to do.”

Here is a link to Michelle Marconi's website that she shares with students.  Students can come here to access all the lists that they are required to know.

The following video, produced by Michelle Marconi, takes you through all that Quizlet has to offer.
