Parent Newsletter - October 2014
Digital Transformations,
As second quarter approaches, the dust has settled, the bugs
have been worked out, new school year jitters have subsided, and the
transformation of the classroom has begun. We began the year with the roll out of 520 iPads to freshman
students for use in their English, Social Science, and Biology classes. The students and teachers did an
exceptional job unwrapping this new technology and integrating it into their
learning experience.
A few examples of the dynamic learning occurring at RMHS
include:
●
Trips to virtual museums in the classroom to study the
differences and similarities of humans and cavemen.
●
Access to curriculum materials 24 hours a day through
the use of teacher created learning management systems.
●
Instant access to presentations and student sharing
using apple tv.
●
Transformative notetaking; allowing for the students to
bring life to their notes with color, pictures, and audio.
●
Interactive project management through the use of
shared folders and documents in google drive.
With digital transformation comes digital responsibility. All freshman, in their English classes,
went through a library orientation.
This orientation included a lesson on digital citizenship. In this
lesson we focused on being a safe and productive digital citizen online. Below is an excerpt from
commonsensemedia.org. It explains
how parents can help guide their child towards a safe digital footprint.
For more information on internet safety, there are several
links under parent resources on our district website.
